How obedience training starts
From cute puppies to life-saving protection dogs
At K9 Protector, we provide the ultimate form of protection with our fully trained protection dogs - and we find it incredible to see how each dog grows and develops over the years as our team of professional trainers support each puppy through the different stages of its life.
Here’s a quick overview of how protection dogs grow into their role and become the amazingly obedient and loyal protection dogs that we offer today.
It starts with a cute puppy
When each puppy is born, we provide them with the right level of support to make sure they get the best care possible.
In their early stages, puppies need to get plenty of love and attention - as well as sleep and nutrition.
At this stage, protection dog training isn’t part of their routine as they find their way in life and become familiar with their surroundings.

Puppy Training
Puppies aren’t trained until they are at least 8 weeks old and even then, training is taken progressively one step at a time. While training could be started at an earlier age, we believe it’s essential for a puppy to have developed sufficiently first.
Training for puppies is different to adult dog training. It’s food-based and more focused on providing rewards and making learning fun. Development is also more focused on following simple commands and being obedient - and less about performing more direct protection to its owner.

Early adulthood training
As each puppy grows into an adult, their training develops. Simple commands have been mastered and their growing physical presence allows them to move to the next stage.
Having the right diet and exercise as well as support continue to play an important role but training is less focused on treats. Keeping a protection dog healthy is vital and we ensure that each dog gets the right balance of rest and playtime as well as exercise and nutrition.
By the time a protection dog becomes fully grown, they are fully immersed in the proven training programme provided by our professional trainers.
We only recommend or provide protection dogs once we are confident that they are fully trained adults that are able to perform to our high standards for our customers.
With the full support of our team at K9 Protector, wonderful, cute puppies grow up to become loyal protection dogs, trained to protect you and your family and save lives!
