An overview of what it means to own a 'K9 Protector' protection dog

Over the years, we have received many questions about the best way that individuals can protect themselves and their families. In this article, we discuss the ‘what, why, who and where’ of having a protection dog to protect you and your loved ones. If you would like more information about protection dogs, please get in touch with us here at K9 Protector by calling 01761 240 754.

What is a protection dog?

A protection dog is a fully skilled adult dog that is trained to protect you and your family from a range of dangerous and threatening circumstances.

They are not to be confused with attack dogs or security dogs, which are dogs used to guard your property and are not trained to such a high level as a protection dog from K9 Protector. Therefore security or attack dogs do not know the difference between right and wrong or who to (or not to) attack. Our comprehensive chaperone protection training starts when the dogs are puppies. They are also integrated with family life while maturing and their training includes how to deal with different real-life situations from sensing the presence of an intruder through to scaring them off when confronting them and protecting you and your family with the right level of defence.

In what situations will I need a family protection dog?

A family protection dog or personal protection dog is a great way to protect yourself and your family in a range of situations. This might sound a bit vague but protection dogs are flexible. They can stay at home with loved ones to protect them and your valuables, or they can travel with you to work or even internationally.

We have customers who take their protection dog with them when travelling, even on private jets around the world.

Going for an evening walk? Take your protection dog with you. Need to travel to work? Your protection dog is a loyal, well-disciplined companion that will provide you with the protection you need, when you need it.

What dogs do you use, and why?

At K9 Protector, we use healthy, fully trained German Shepherd dogs. We have a team of professional trainers who have years of experience training dogs for the types of dangerous situations that you might find yourself in.

We use German Shepherd dogs as they are loyal, intelligent and have the right temperament for the situation and can seamlessly fit in with your family life. We strongly advise against using any form of bulldog or terrier which might be strong and powerful but isn’t as obedient and disciplined when it comes to a potentially life-threatening situation.

How do protection dogs help, compared to other forms of security?

Unlike technical security like CCTV cameras and alarm systems, protection dogs can be adapted to different situations and they also provide the ultimate last line of defence.

We love technology but criminals have ways of avoiding cameras and alarmed gates. With a fully trained and loyal protection dog by your side, any criminal will think twice before making further advances… and if they do make advances? Your protection dog is there for you.

How old is a protection dog when they are provided?

Although we breed protection dogs and start training them from an early age, we don’t offer them to potential owners until they are fully grown and ready to do their job. It’s important for us, the dog and our clients to make sure that the protection dog is ready both physically and mentally to provide the highest level of protection. We do encourage you to meet our dogs whilst in training and you can reserve a puppy which will be fully trained and introduced in to your family when we feel it is ready to give you the protection you need, whilst being a loved family member too.
